MEET OUR SUICIDE PREVENTION COLLABORATORS

dr. Diane Kaufman, MD., Suicide Prevention Activist

Our team is honored to be collaborating on a number of suicide prevention projects with Dr. Diane Kaufman, MD, we're excited to share with you in upcoming blogs and announcements. Dr. Kaufman is not only a Child Psychiatrist, Humanism in Medicine Awardee, and Founder and Director of the innovative Arts and Healing Resiliency Center at Mind Matters PC, but also a poet and artist dedicated to preventing suicide.

While Diane's award-winning collaborations with artists, song writers, composers, and videographers on mental health themes such as suicide, depression, anti-bulling, domestic violence, and addiction are far too extensive to include here, below are some highlights of her valuable contributions to suicide prevention as well as coping from a loss of a loving one and healing from trauma.

When a friend and colleague ended her life, Diane's "Just Like This Tree" poster, designed by Amanda Meador, was her response to this incredibly painful loss. It was also a means to reach out to those in needs of solace. Diane dedicated the poster as a tribute to lives lost to suicide and to those struggling to hold onto hope.

Beautifully created, Diane's archetypal story of resilience and transformation, Bird That Wants to Fly, offers healing for children and adults who have been traumatized. Originally written as a children's book, it inspired the creation of a children's opera by composer Michael Raphael, and is also narrated by actor Danny Glover on an audible.com opera recording.
Diane dedicated her poem turned into song, "Wishing You Were Still Here," by singer-songwriter Ryan Brinker to all suicide loss survivors. By sharing here, we too hope it can help bring comfort to those who have lost loved ones to suicide, and can help prevent suicide.
"Don't Give Up" is a video animation and song that brings hope to those in a dark place, motivating them to never give up, letting them know they're not alone and to reach out for help. Written first as a poem and then turned into lyrics by Diane and Mia Stegner, with music and vocals by Mia, arrangement and production by Raymiah Jackson, and animation and special effects by Lucia Martinez Rojas.
