why we started our program

At certain times in our lives we all need someone who has walked in our shoes to just listen and be there. Someone who truly gets us because they have been there and have been through it too.

We know. We get it. And, we care. We don't want you to go through your struggles alone. You don't have too. We can't promise we can fix all of your problems, but we can promise you don't have to face them alone.
Bipolar to Bipolar is a confidential peer mentoring program wherein peers with a bipolar diagnosis who are further along in their journey virtually mentor those who aren't yet where they want to be.

Our goal is to bring back light, laughter and love into your life, something we all need and deserve. Where there is help, there is hope.

Mentoring is available in English (Kerry Martin), Spanish (Lucia Rojas)
Hindi and Punjabi (Hitesh Gupta) by a member of our lived experience team.

how does mentoring work and what can you expect?

Mentorship builds an ongoing relationship of learning, dialogue and challenge. Our mentors are working professionals with different backgrounds but what they all have in common is that they too are diagnosed with bipolar and are now living balanced and successful lives, clear demonstrations that hope and purpose help and heal.

Communication modes are determined by you and can start with text or email and then shift to phone, video conferencing and so forth. Whatever works for you, works for us.

PEER MENTORING IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR THERAPY

Please note that our mentoring program is not a substitute for therapy nor are our mentors therapists, clinicians, social workers or any other kind of health care professional. As such, our mentors cannot offer specific medical or therapeutic advice, offer immediate assistance in an urgent crisis or connect you to specific treatment and/or social services. With that said, we always do the best we can to be there for you.

why does a social purpose corporation choose to mentor? a Note from Our CEO

Given I'm the CEO and Founder, people often ask me why I choose to mentor. My answer is simple: because I care. When I was struggling to come to grips with my own bipolar diagnosis, in retrospect, I wish I had a mentor. I felt alone and lost. And, when suicidal, I felt misunderstood and in pain and anguish. I want no one else to go through what I did alone.

Given hopelessness is the leading predictor of suicide, it's critical to provide a bridge from hopelessness to hopefulness, as well as helpless to helpful. By providing light to those who reach out to us and live in a far too often dim world, we empower those in our community to shine. My goal when I mentor is always the same: to encourage my mentees to reach inside themselves to find and reignite their inner light and renew their life purpose.

Working with those struggling with a bipolar diagnosis over many years, I have figured out that, to save lives, we must care for one another. Everyone deserves someone who cares. Caring restores hopes. Caring renews life purpose. And, caring as well as compassion are key to accomplishing our company's social cause: to reduce the incidence of suicide.
When I got into that ugly space, I actually had someone to reach out too and someone I knew would understand ... and just listen to me. - Name withheld due to stigma
